Each week at my church I meet with a group of four and five year old children who call themselves "Christian Character." They have made designs on their shirts depicting a biblical character. Proudly each week, they wear their shirts with the picture and name of such godly persons as David, Daniel, Esther, and Mary.

In Judges 2:10 we read: "There arose another generation which knew not the Lord, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel." Although Joshua was a great leader and had many great men to help him carry out God's instructions, he somehow failed to attend to the spiritual needs of the next generation (the children). Sad to say, but isn't the average local soul-winning church following in his footsteps? They may have great leaders and personal soul-winners, but somehow they are failing to thoroughly disciple the next generation. How can a fifty minute Sunday school lesson, another fifty minute BTU lesson, two sermons on Sunday, and one sermon on Wednesday night (about five hours total) produce dedicated, consecrated, disciples, and full-time pastors, preachers, teachers, missionaries, and church-planters for Christ from our children, much less our adults?
