KEEPING THE SOUL-WINNER'S FIRE
HOW TO WIN SOULS, by Rev. Glendy Hamilton

I thank God for this opportunity to share with you what I believe to be the dearest thing to our heavenly Father, and that is Soul-Winning. I was saved in 1976 in Tallahassee, Florida, and after I heard about soul-winning, it has been a priority with me ever since. I hope you understand that this article is not from a know-it-all, but from a brother who hopes you will be encouraged to get the Good News of the saving grace of Jesus Christ to all people.

I believe if one is to be a soul-winner, he must first be saved himself. And he must be assured of his unchanging position with God. Due to the fact that many people do not rightly divide the Scriptures, many saved people believe they can lose their salvation, therefore much of their time is spent making sure they will enter into the Kingdom. Praise God for eternal salvation through the Blood of Jesus Christ!

After the excitement of the New Birth wears off, I believe the saint of God must pray fervently to become the soul-winner that God would have him to be. The Scriptures say: "Pray without ceasing" (I Thessalonians 5:17). "Men ought always to pray and not to faint" (Luke 18:1). "And pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest" (Matthew 9:38).

Prayer reminds us of our need for the power of the Holy Spirit and our responsibility to lost mankind.

Also, to be an effective and consistent soul-winner, I believe one must resist the devil constantly because he will tempt us to be afraid of what people may say or do. We forget too quickly that the main aim of the enemy is to keep us quiet about Jesus.

Then I believe as we go to and fro, we should be prepared to witness. We need the following five things:

  1. An obedient spirit to the command of God. (St, Matthew 28:19-20, St. Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8).

  2. A genuine love and concern for all lost people.

  3. A plan of action: (a) Romans 3:23-All are sinners; (b) Romans 6:23-Punishment for sin; (c) Romans 5:8-9-God loves us; (d) Romans 10:9, 10, 13-Our way out; (e) John 6:47-Assurance of salvation.

  4. A universal approach question: Sir/Ma'am, may I share some Good News with you today? (Believe me, hardly anyone will reject you if you use this approach.)

  5. Faithfulness. A soul-winner must be faithful and willing to continue witnessing regardless of what the results might be. For the Scripture says in Galatians 6:9: "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

I pray that this article will be a help to you as you try to reach your community for Jesus Christ.
