Malachi 3:6-12
The Book of Malachi records the life of the Jewish remnant who returned to the land after the captivity of the Babylonian Empire, followed by the Medo-Persian Empire. Cyrus the king of Persia had released the remnant in 538 B.C., who in small numbers returned to rebuild the Temple under Zerrubabel and Jeshua (related in Ezra, Haggai and Zechariah). Later (83 years) in 455 B.C., Ezra the priest led an expedition back to the land and found deplorable spiritual conditions and began a revival. Thirteen years later Nehemiah is commissioned to go back and rebuild the city of Jerusalem starting with its walls.
